One calls me mama, the other calls me babe, and somewhere basking in the sun, soft snores ignore us all. These are my people (and pup), my little family who fill my heart, and we call Oregon home.
My journey to birth work began as my own postpartum cloud began to lift. While fortunate to have had an "easy" pregnancy, the birth process was traumatic and breastfeeding fueled my postpartum depression and anxiety. Thankfully, I had a wonderful support system and safe space at a local yoga studio where I was able to nurture and heal myself.
Since those dark days, I have become a DONA trained birth & postpartum doula and yoga teacher. I will continue to educate myself and others on the many deficits and inequities that pregnant people face, and empower those birthing people to to advocate for themselves in and out of the birth room.
I believe growing and birthing a baby is a life-altering experience, and the unrealistic expectations that society puts on us to "bounce back to normal" is unfair. This beautifully raw time should be met with space and unwavering support.
What does your support system look like?
